South Africa
Health Authorities in South Africa have confirmed the country’s first case of Zika virus infection.
Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi said the virus was detected in a Colombian man who is in visiting Johannesburg.
He said “ the businessman was presented with fever and rash approximately four days after arrival in South Africa but is now fully recovered.”
The mosquito borne disease which has been declared a global public health emergency by the World Health Organisation was first detected in the 1970s in Uganda.
With cases already recorded in Cape Verde, some fear a come back of the disease on the continent.
